Work begins on new Thanh Da Bridge

The HCM City Department of Transport has begun construction of a larger bridge to Thanh Da Peninsula, the popular tourist site in Binh Thanh District.

The 700-metre bridge will run parallel to the existing Kinh Bridge, beginning on Xo Viet Nghe Tinh Street and ending on Binh Quoi Street on the peninsula.

The city-funded project is expected to cost 345 billion dong (US$22 million) and 28 months to complete.

Thanh Da has long been popular attraction and the new four-lane bridge is expected to spur tourism there.

The Kinh Bridge, Thanh Da’s only traffic link with the rest of Binh Thanh District, was built before 1975 and has begun to deteriorate. – Tuoitre
