VN coffee hopes to raise profile in Canada
Executives from seven coffee companies have returned after a visit to Canada to explore business opportunities there.
The trip, from June 7 to 11, was made as part of a key trade promotion programme being organised by the Viet Nam Coffee and Cocoa Association in co-ordination with the Trade Mission and the Vietnamese embassy in Canada.
The delegation met Canadian businesspeople to get an understanding of the market.
At a seminar held in Mississauga, Ontario Province, market research firm BPT apprised the visitors of the local coffee market, distribution channels, food safety regulations related to coffee, and consumer habits. The Viet Nam Coffee Corporation initialled an agreement with the Kien Phat Canada Company for exclusive distribution rights for Vinacafe products in that country.
Canada is one of the world’s largest coffee importers and Viet Nam’s coffee exports to this market have been steadily growing in recent years.
In the first four months this year, Viet Nam exported 465,000 tonnes of coffee, earning US$651 million, a 16 per cent drop in volume and nearly 23 per cent in value. — VNS
