Vinh Long urged to develop large-scale agricultural sector
PM Nguyen Tan Dung and a government delegation held a working session with the authorities from the southern Vinh Long province on September 6 to review the results of the local socio-economic plan for the 2006-2010 period and discuss the solutions for socio-economic development from 2011 to 2015.
The province’s economy has constantly grown with an 11.19 percent increase in its GDP over 2009 and positive shifts in its structure with specialized cultivation areas. Vinh Long province’s infrastructure has also been improved while the income per capita has reached more than US$1,000 and the poverty rate has dropped six percent.
The PM stressed Vinh Long needs to build on its traffic potential and advantages – National Highway No 5 and a crisscrossed system of cannels, mild climate and fertile land – to make more progress. He asked the province to effectively disburse its investment sources and attempt to fulfil the government’s 2010 socio-economic plan.
PM Dung suggested in the coming time, the province should invest more in infrastructure, human resources, and technology. He instructed Vinh Long to develop agriculture comprehensively as well as solving issues related to farmers and rural areas and protecting the environment. – VOV
