Vinalines to operate 2nd phase of VND1.4Tln seaport
Vietnam National Shipping Lines (Vinalines) will operate the second phase of a seaport with a total investment of VND1.41 trillion (US$72.3 million) in Mekong Delta’s city of Can Tho on Sept 19.
The second phase of Cai Cui seaport, which costs VND1.2 trillion, includes three wharves totaling 500 meters in length and with a modern loading and unloading system, which is expected to handle 20,000-DWT vessels.
On the same day, Vinalines will put into operations a VND600-billion logistics area at the Cai Cui seaport, which will provide marine services for seaports in the Mekong Delta region and will be used to distribute goods as well as offer logistics services for businesses.
Vinalines, the largest state-owned shipping and port operator in the country, made a pretax profit of VND688 billion, up 146% from a year earlier in the first half. The group forecast its 2010 pretax profit may fall 60% from target to VND500 billion after it received projects of the loss-making giant shipbuilder Vinashin.
Its fleet is expected to transport 36 million tons of cargoes and its ports are hoped to handle 73 million tons of cargo in 2010, up 9% and 5% on-year, respectively. – Investment
