Vinachem to build sorbitol plant

Viet Nam National Chemical Group (Vinachem) signed a joint venture contract on Monday with businesses in Tay Ninh Province to build the country’s first sorbitol plant.

Vinachem has contributed 45 per cent of joint-venture capital for the VND500 billion (US$26.3 million) plant while Tay Ninh Sugarcane MTV Ltd Co; Tay Ninh Rubber 1-5 MTV Ltd Co and Tay Ninh Lottery Co participated 25 per cent, 12.5 per cent and 12.5 per cent, respectively.

The plant, located in Tan Hoi Commune, Tay Ninh Province’s Tan Chau District, has a designed capacity of 30,000 tonnes per year. It will use cassava grown by local farmers on 40,000 ha.

Construction to start is expected by the fourth quarter with completion by the end of next year. It aims to meet domestic demand and provide tens of thousands of jobs for locals.
