Viettel to commercialize 4G in next four years

The test for 4G technology is to only confirm the network infrastructure capability and be the master of technology, Hoang Son, director of Vietnam military-run technology firm (Viettel) said.
On May 12, Viettel had organized a press conference to announce its successful test for 4G technology (the fourth generation-4G) in Hanoi and HCM City, seven months after getting license from the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC).

So far, Viettel has been the first network operator enabling customers to try 4G technology services.

At the press conference, Viettel has performed five most common and specific test services of 4G technology which requires uploading and downloading speed, live television, video calls with high-fidelity image, television conversation, watching movies and television on demand.

According to Viettel, in ideal conditions with test bandwidth of 10 MHz, Viettel’s maximum data transmission speed of 4G network can reach up to 75 Mbps for downloading and 25 Mbps for uploading.

In this test, Viettek launched 40 base transceiver station (BTS) in Hanoi and 40 ones in HCM City.

Viettel’s director, Hoang Son, said currently, 3G technology has largely met the needs of customers. The test of 4G network is to only confirm the network infrastructure capability and be master of technology.

The suitable time for commercializing 4G technology maybe in 2014 or 2015 when the terminal price forecast for 4G devices (currently at $300-400) will be equal to the price of 3G devices now, or about $50. – Vietbiz24
