Viettel increases 3G coverage in Southwest of Vietnam

Vietnam military-run telecommunication firm (Viettel) has been deploying the installation and additional broadcasting for nearly 1,100 3G base transceiver station (BTS) in 13 provinces and cities in the Southwest of Vietnam, rising 48 percent against the current number of BTS in this region.

Viettel said that with nearly 7,100 2G and 3G BTS, it will continue to gain the largest number of BTS in the area. The Viettel’s average ratio of 3G BTS compared with 2G BTS in this area reached 87 percent, higher than the country’s average ratio at 65 percent. Of which, Can Tho city reached the highest ratio at 95 percent.

While the number of 2G BTS in 13 provinces and cities in the Southwest region accounted for 14 percent of Viettel’s total BTS nationwide, the number of 3G BTS counted for nearly 20 percent. In the country’s eight economic regions, the Southwest accounts for 20 percent of the population and 12 percent in terms of area.

Additionally, along with increasing the capacity of 3G networks, Viettel has previously carried out to bring optical cable to 13 provinces and cities, with rates reaching 90 percent photochemistry. As planned, by early May 2011, Viettel will complete the addition of 1,100 3G BTS in the westernmost provinces.

This group said the increase of 3G coverage in the southwest provinces is one of the priority policies of Viettel to provide the basic telecommunication services, especially wireless broadband Internet in this region. – Vneconomy
