Vietnam’s tea export reaches 11,000 tonnes in Feb
Vietnam’s tea export in February is estimated to reach 11,000 tonnes worth $16 million, bringing the total figures in first two months this year to 22,000 tonnes valued at $32 million, up 27.4 percent in quantity and 34.3 percent in value against the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Amongst the country’s three biggest tea buyers namely Pakistan, Russia and Taiwan, in Jan-Feb, only Pakistan posted strong growth in both quantity and value (two fold increase year-on-year).
The tea export price also increased slightly 6.5 percent year-on-year to reach $1,466 per tone.
In January, the country’s tea export was 11,000 tonnes worth $16 million, increasing 1.6 percent in quantity and 7.3 percent in value from the same period last year.
In 2010, Vietnam’s tea export reached 132,000 tonnes with an export turnover of $194 million and the average tea export price was at $1,469 per tonne. Earlier, the record price was $1,520 per tone in 2008.
Vietnam is now the world’s fifth largest tea producer and exporter. Vietnam’s tea export markets are still China, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Saudi Arabia.
