Vietnam’s rice export in 2011 likely to exceed 2010′s record
Vietnam’s rice export this year may reach over seven million tonnes, up 3.5% year on year, according to the plan of Vietnam Food Association (VFA).
The Ministry of Industry and Trade confirmed that Vietnam’s rice export in 2011 is expected to exceed the record in 2010 with an export volume of over seven million tones, rising 3.5% from 2010′s figure.
As of August 23, the country exported nearly five million tonnes of rice, worth $2.361 billion (basing on FOB price). The average FOB export price reached $473.82 per tone, rising $43 per tone from the same period last year.
In particular, in April, Vietnam exported 717,000 tonnes against 682,000 tonnes in last April (up 5%), 702,000 tones in May (it was 709,000 tonnes of rice in last May, down 1%) and 642,900 tonnes in June compared to 645,400 tonnes of rice in June 2010, down 0.4%. After recording frop in two consecutive months, in July, the country’s rice export reached 708,000 compared to 629,600 tonnes in July 2010, rising 12%.
In 2011, Vietnam not only maintains longstanding export markets but also developed many new markets and increased trade deals, especially with Bangladesh, Indonesia and some markets in Africa.
