Vietnam’s post and telecom sector posts 29.2tr dong revenue in Q1

As estimated by the general Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO), the total net revenue of Vietnam’s post and telecommunication sector in Q1 reached 29.2 trillion dong, rising 14 percent against the same period last year, of which, Vietnam Post and Telecommunication Group (VNPT) made up 18.7 trillion dong, a year‐on‐year rise of 9.1 percent.

Till the end of March, 2011, the country had about 174.1 million subscribers, up 28.2 percent over the same period last year.

Of which, in Q1, the country has developed three more million new subscribers, equaling to 29.4 percent year‐on‐year, including 23,800 fixed phone users and 2.98 million mobile phone subscribers.

Till March, there were 16.5 million fixed phone users, a year‐on‐year up 1.1 percent, and 157.6 million mobile phone subscribers, rising 31.9 percent from the same period last year.

However, till the end of February, the country had 172.6 million phone subscribers (including 16.5 million fixed phone users and 156.1 million mobile phone ones) and the figure in January was 174.1 million.

Thus, in March, the total number of mobile phone subscribers increased strongly again while the total number of fixed phone users saw a standstill (16.5 million users).

In addition, according to GSO, the total number of Internet users till the end of Q1 was estimated to reach 3.8 million subscribers, up 19.2 percent from the same period last year. The total number of Internet users by the end of March 2011 was about 29 million people, growing 22.9 percent year‐on‐year. – Vietbiz24
