Vietnam’s export to Canada up 23.1pct in first eight months
Vietnam’s exports to Canada in August reached $87 million, up 4.8 percent from previous month and 35.9 percent year-on-year, bringing the Vietnam’s total export turnover to Canada in Jan-August to $502.3 million, a year-on-year increase of 23.1 percent and accounting for 1.1 percent of the country’s total export turnover in first eight months this year, according to Vietnam General Statistical Office (GSO).
Apparel products took the lead in Vietnam’s export turnover to Canada with $143 million in Jan-Aug, rising 18.6 percent against the same period last year and accounting for 28.5 percent of the total export turnover, and then footwear with $68.5 million, rising 13.3 percent y-o-y and accounting for 13.6 percent, and seafood products with $67 million, up 4.5 percent and accounting for 13.4 percent.
Also during the first eight months this year, Vietnam’s export items to Canada gained high growth such as rubber reached $3.4 million, a year-on-year rise of 294 percent and accounting for 0.7 percent of the total export, and followed by wood and wooden products with $54.8 million, up 86.3 percent y-o-y and counting for 10.9 percent, glass and products from glass $1.9 million, up 62.4 percent and counting for 0.4 percent and vegetables and fruits $4.8 million, up 47.5 percent and accounting for 1 percent of the total export turnover.
Conversely, some Vietnam’s export commodities to Canada decreased in value in first eight months like coffee with $2.6 million, down 21 percent y-o-y and accounting for 0.5 percent, followed by confectionary and products from grain $2.4 million, down 10 percent and counting for 0.5 percent, plastic materials $4 million, falling 1.1 percent and accounting for 0.8 percent and ceramic products $2.6 million, down 0.4 percent and accounting for 0.5 percent. – Vinanet
