Vietnam’s electricity import from China increases by 100m kWh/mth

Vietnam’s electricity purchase from China has increased by 100 million kWh per month since April.
The country’s total electricity output including both power production and purchase in Jan-April reached nearly 32.7 billion kWh, rising 10.32 percent from the same period last year, of which, electricity purchase was nearly 19.5 billion kWh, a year on year rise of 14.78 percent, according to Electricity Regulatory Agency (Ministry of Industry and Trade).

As assessed by Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), together with external factors like improved hydrological conditions at hydropower, favorable weather conditions and low electricity demand, there are some other factors such as many new coal-fired power plants have started operations in the North.

In addition, two generators No 1 and 2 of Son La hydropower plant being put into operations significantly improved the shortage of electricity during peak hours in dry season 2011.

As expected, in May, the electricity system may meet average output of about 309 million kWh per day with the highest capacity of around 15,500-16,300 MW.

Along with maintaining the stable operations for generators No 1 and 2 of Son La hydropower plant, EVN also strives to put into operation the first generator of An Khe hydropower plant, the second generator of Dong Nai 3 hydropower plant and complete nine 220 kV power grid works to meet the demands of business and production. – Vietbiz24
