Vietnam’s apparel product exports post over $2b trade surplus in H1

Of the export turnover of $6.16 billion in the first six months of this year, garment and textile sector spent some $5.76 billion for import of raw materials, Vitas said.

Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (Vitas)’s latest statistics showed Vietnam’s apparel product export enjoyed a trade surplus of some $2.1 billion in H1, marking the highest level ever.

According to Vitas, of the total export turnover $6.16 billion in H1, garment and textile sector spent some $5.76 billion for imports of raw materials, including nearly $1.76 billion for import to serve the domestic market and about $4 billion for export.

The increasing import spending for raw materials in H1 was attributed to the ever-increasing price of materials in the world market, of which, cotton saw the strongest rise of 103 percent and then fabric (over 38 percent) and yarn up over 30 percent year-on-year.
