Vietnam’s apparel product export likely to hit $13.2b in 2011

Vietnam’s garment and textile sector is likely to achieve the target of $13.2 billion worth of export turnover in 2011, even it may exceed the target to touch $13.5 billion this year, said Le Tien Truong, deputy general director of Vietnam Garment and Textile Group (Vinatex), while addressing a press briefing with the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT).
Truong said that in the first months of this year, garment and textile sector has posted satisfactory growth. Till the end of September 2011, the country’s export turnover for apparel products reached $10.5 billion, rising 32% from the same period last year.

However, from September 2011, the growth started to slow down from previous months with actual export turnover in September at only $1.3 billion, lower than $1.6 billion in August.

The reason was attributable to the decline in consumption of some key markets such as the US and EU. – Source: Vietbiz24.com
