Vietnamese travel firms resume Thailand tours

Vietnamese travel companies, who had suspended tours to Thailand last week due to the political turmoil there, have resumed tours to that country.

Fiditour Co took 20 tourists Tuesday, Vietravel Co has been taking 50-70 people since last Saturday, and Saigontourist Co resumed the following day.

Around 10 percent of people booked with Fiditour canceled their tours last Tuesday or switched to other destinations like Singapore, Malaysia, and China as the Red Shirts, former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra’s supporters, protested on the streets in Thailand.

Vietravel announced last Sunday it was suspending tours to Thailand, offering trips to other countries or refunds.

The Thailand Authority of Tourism’s representative office in Ho Chi Minh City has promised to safeguard Vietnamese tourists in Thailand amid the protests.
