Vietnamese, Thai businesses meet in Hanoi

The Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) on May 19 held a meeting in Hanoi for Vietnamese and Thai enterprises to seek business opportunities and partners.

Representatives from 30 Thai enterprises involving in rice exports, real estate, electronic, pharmaceutical and import-export, come to the event.

With a population of over 65 million people, a GDP of 269 billion USD and per capita income of 8,100 USD a year, Thailand is a potential market for Vietnamese enterprises.

Thailand imports cotton, rubber, plastic materials, clinker, paper, fibres, materials for garment and textile, footwear and pharmaceuticals. The country exports electronic components, agricultural products and diamond.

According to the VCCI, trade turnover between Vietnam and Thailand increased constantly over the past years, hitting 6.2 billion USD in 2008 and over 5.7 billion USD in 2009.

Thailand ranked 10 th among foreign investors in Vietnam.
