Vietnam Vinashin affiliate hands over 22,500-ton ship to Vinalines

Bach Dang Shipbuilding Industry Corp, an affiliate of Vinashin Business Group, has handed over a 22,500-ton ship to Vietnam National Shipping Lines (Vinalines). Blue Star is among eight ships that Bach Dang has built to Vinalines.

The freighter, designed by Vinakita Company, a joint venture between Vinashin and Japan’s Kitada, is 153.2 meters long, 26 meters wide and 13.75 meters high and can travel at a maximum speed of 13.2 nautical miles per hour.

The Vinashin affiliate is building a series of 17,500-ton ships for South Korea’s Shinsung Company and 7,000-ton ships for Italian partners.

The shipbuilder had revenues of VND1.8 trillion (US$97.4 million) in 2009, up 12% from a year earlier. This year, it plans to raise its production value and revenues by 20% each from a year ago.
