Vietnam Uses 21.6M Tons of Coal in H1

Vietnam consumed 21.6 million tons of coal in the first half of this year, the Ministry of Industry and Trade said.

During the six-month period, the country produced 22 million tons of coal, a rise of 5.4% from a year earlier, and had 5.3 million tons in stock.

The state-owned Vietnam National Coal-Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin), the country’s top miner, targets to produce 47 million to 50 million tons of coal and export 18 million tons of the fossil fuel this year.

Vietnam is forecast to have to start importing coal after 2015, although it is still boosting coal exports.
