Vietnam cuts the forecast for Tra fish export turnover to $1.35 billion for the whole year 2010 from the earlier estimated $1.38 billion due to the U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) anti-dumping tax on Vietnamese Tra fish products, the online newspaper ThoibaokinhteSaiGon reported on October 13, citing the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Vietnam Tra fish export to the U.S immediately fell after the DOC raising anti-dumping tariff of 130% on Vietnam Tra fish products, Vietnam Tra fish exporters said.

Currently, the average price of Tra fish is $3.5 – $4 a kilo as Vietnamese product is enjoying the lowest tariff rate of 0.52%.

If the tariff exceeds 100%, American customers will have to pay $7-$8 a kilo, which makes Vietnamese Tra fish much less competitive, Nguyen Huu Dung , Vice President of the Viet Nam Association of Seafood Exporters and Processors spoke to the online newspaper Viet Nam News on September 28.

Viet Nam is one of the biggest Tra fish exporters in the world, and the annual export of raw material totals 1.2 million tons a year.
