Vietnam to Host 3rd Int’l Rice Conference 2010 in November
The 3rd International Rice Conference (IRC 2010) will take place at the National Conference Center in Hanoi from November 8 to 12.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) will preside over the event in collaboration with the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) and the Asia Congress Events.
The IRC 2010 will attract the full participation of rice scientists, researchers and experts all around the world, To Phuc Tuong, a Vietnamese scientist in IRRI, said at the press briefing on the conference in the Philippines late May.
The event will include five main activities, including the 28th international seminar on rice research, the 3rd global workshop on rice trade, the 3rd international exhibition of rice cultivation technology and civilization, and the 50th celebration of the IRRI’s establishment.
Delegates will discuss the key trends of the world’s rice development, production of alternative food, and the application of agricultural product processing technologies from China, Republic of Korea and Japan, Tuong added.
IRRI forecast the world will need 50 million tons of rice more this year to meet its increasing demand.
Vietnam ranked second among top ten rice biggest exporters in the world with six million tons last year, after Thailand, and before the U.S., China, Brazil, Argentina, Italy, Paraguay, the Netherlands and Russia, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
