Vietnam to Export 15,000 Tons of Thieu Litchis to China in 2010

Vietnam is expected to export 15,000 tons of Thieu litchis to China via Lao Cai border gate this year, up 15% from a year earlier.

Local traders are selling tens tons of litchi to the neighboring country daily, Le Phuong, deputy head of Custom Department at Lao Cai border gate was cited as saying.

The export volume will surge next month when local farmers come into the main harvest crop, he predicted.

The fruit is selling for around VND17,000-VND18,000/kg at domestic markets. But the prices are predicted to drop to below VND10,000/kg in the coming weeks on rich supply.

Thieu litchi is mostly grown in the northern province of Bac Giang. The province is expected to harvest 26,100 tons of litchis from around 35,000 hectares under cultivation this year.
