Vietnam to export $1.4Bln pangasius in 2010

Vietnam is estimated to export 645,000 tons of pangasius worth $1.4 billion on 2010, falling short of the year target of $1.5 billion

Vietnam is estimated to export 645,000 tons of pangasius worth $1.4 billion on 2010, falling short of the year target of $1.5 billion, the online newspaper NDHMoney reported on December 28, citing Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

The pangasius export reached $1.277 billion in the first 11 months of this year, up 2.8% from 2009, VASEP said.

The average price of exported pangasious fell 3% on year to $2.14/kg.

The prices of exported pangasious have dropped for some years due to higher output and price competitiveness strategy of local firms while the quantity generally decreased.

VASEP targets to cut exported pangasious to around 360,000 tons of in 2011, down 43% from 2010. – Stoxplus.com
