Vietnam to build space center

Vietnam’s Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has approved the establishment a national space center, Tien Phong reported Tuesday.

The space center will be established at Hoa Lac Hi-tech Park in Hanoi and will function as a hub for research and the production of small satellites to meet local demand for weather forecasting, research and rescue missions, according to the newspaper.

The construction will be conducted by Vietnam National Satellite Center.

Vietnam launched its first satellite Vinasat-1 in April 2008 and plans to launch another in 2012.
