Vietnam steel firms face anti-dumping cases
President of Vietnam Steel Association Nguyen Chi Cuong said that steel products of Vietnam have received warnings about the possibility of facing anti-dumping cases in some countries.
Vietnam’s steel enterprises have started to export steel for nearly three years with small volumes. In the first eight months of 2011, the export volume of construction steel of the association’s member companies reached 157,809 tonnes, steel pipes reached 74,367 tonnes, and cold rolled steel reached 386,380 tonnes.
However, export steel prices of Vietnam are quite competitive, and export volume has increased year-on-year, so there is also a possibility of being sued for dumping.
American Steel Pipe Association began lobbying for filling a lawsuit against Vietnamese steel pipes exported to the US market. The countries of Thailand and Indonesia also have issued written warnings to the trade bodies of Vietnam about this steel export phenomenon.
The steel association said that local steel firms do not have a lot of experience to deal with this issue and recommended that steel companies should pay attention to growth in steel output and export prices into these markets.
