Vietnam, Slovakia seek to bolster economic ties

Vietnam and Slovakia hold great potential for cooperation in mechanical manufacturing and human resource development for the nuclear power industry.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) released the information at a Vietnam – Slovakia Business Forum, jointly organised in Hanoi on April 15 by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Slovak Embassy in Hanoi.

According to MoIT, Vietnam’s export staples to Slovakia in recent years included rice, coffee, cocoa, tea and garments. However, two-way trade has remained modest compared with the potential of both sides.

MoIT Deputy Minister Le Danh Vinh said together with the fine traditional relationship, the Vietnamese community in Slovakia will work as a bridge to promote cooperative relations between the two nations in the years to come.

The Slovak Minister of Economy, Juraj Miskov, said Vietnam is Slovakia’s potential partner, expressing his hope that the business communities of the two countries would build up effective and comprehensive cooperative ties in the future.

Within the framework of the forum, the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) and the Export-Import Bank of Slovakia (Eximbanka) signed a cooperation deal, which is expected to facilitate trade and economic ties between Vietnam and Slovakia.
