“The U.S. will spend part of its budget for national cultural conservation on assisting Vietnam to preserve cultural relics in 2010 to mark the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi,” said Ambassador Michael Michalak.
Vietnam and Italy signed a cooperative agreement on culture for the period of 2009-2012, under which the European nation will help Vietnam train cultural workers and restore two cultural heritages of My Son Holy Land and Hue Ancient Capital beginning April this year.
Denmark has also pledged to assist Vietnam in building a conservation and development strategy of culture by signing a cooperative accord between 2009 and 2014.
The UN Cultural, Scientific, and Educational Organization (UNESCO) also committed to support Vietnam to introduce the country’s culture to the world.
Last year also marked the highest number of Vietnamese cultural days and weeks held overseas, including Japan, South Korea, and countries in Europe and Latin America as well as lots of cultural programs organized by nations in Vietnam.
Last year, the Southeast Asian country had two more intangible cultural heritages recognized by the UNESCO including Quan Ho folk song and Ca Tru song, and received the UNESCO’s certificate for the royal woodblocks. (CPV)
