Vietnam seafood output is estimated to reach 365,400 tons including 161,500 tons of breeding seafood and 194,900 tons of seafood exploitation, the online newspaper DVT reported on February 9, citing the General Statistics Office of Vietnam.

The fish output rose 1.1% to 270,400 tons and shrimp production also saw an increase of 4.7% to 30,900 tons in the first month of this year.

The seafood plants increased by 7.3% on year to 161,500 tons including 121,000 tons of fish(+8%) and shrimp(+7.5%). The fish production has surged due to higher Pangasius consumption while the prices of shrimp have increased sharply which helps to boost expanding the plantation area of local farmers.

Meanwhile, seafood exploitation is estimated to drop by 3.4% on year to 194,900 tons including 149,400 tons of fish(-3.4% on year), and 8,800 tons of shrimp ( -1.1% on year) in January. This fall came from the unfavorable climate conditions and a long New Year holiday. – Stoxplus.com
