Vietnam seafood exports +17% to US$2B in H1

Vietnam earned US$2 billion from exporting 597,800 tons of seafood to 143 countries and territories worldwide in the first half of 2010, up 17% on-year in both value and volume, said the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

EU bloc remained the largest market for Vietnamese seafood with 164,000 tons worth US$502 million, the association said, without giving any comparative figures.

In H1, shrimp surpassed tra fish to become the largest export staple of Vietnamese seafood with revenues of more than US$718 million, up 21.9% on year.

Meanwhile, exports of tra fish rose 11.6% to US$640 million during the period.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development’s Statistics and Informatics Center forecast that Vietnam’s total seafood export revenues will grow 13.5% on-year to US$4.82 billion, from exporting more than 1.35 million tons of seafood in 2010. (Vasep)
