Vietnam ranks 4th in footwear exports

Vietnam is in 4th position among ten leading countries in the world in footwear exports.

The country’s footwear products are available in 50 countries, mainly trainers, canvas shoes, leather shoes and sandals.

Now the footwear industry ranks 3rd place in Vietnam, just behind garments and crude oil in terms of total export turnover.

However, 70 percent of Vietnamese goods produced still require some outsourcing. The value added for each product is low, and must about 70 percent of materials must be imported, leading to a low profit margin for the footwear industry.

According to the Vietnam Leather and Footwear Association, the footwear industry’s export turnover by the end of 2010 will reach US$5.57 billion up 17 percent compared to 2009.
