Vietnam Rakes in US$935.8M from Coal Exports to China in 2009
Vietnam earned US$935.84 million from exporting 20.453 million tons of coal to China in 2009, the Ministry of Industry and Trade said.
The figures account for 81.84% and 71.08% of the country’s total coal export volume and revenue respectively, making China the top coal importer of Vietnam last year, the ministry said.
The Southeast Asian country shipped over two million tons of coal worth US$101.3 million to the neighbor last December, down 3.46% from a month earlier in terms of value.
Japan ranked the second for importing 1.375 million tons of coal worth US$145.6 million from Vietnam last year, down 28.72% on-month.
Last Dec, coal export revenues to Thailand fell by 46.8% from the previous month, to Japan down 28.72%, South Korea fell 11.11%, Laos down 4.12% but only coal export value to Malaysia rose by 53.5%.
Vietnam acquired three more coal export markets in Dec, 2009 including India, the Philippines and Indonesia but lost two traditional partners of France and Taiwan in the month.
Last year, Vietnam exported 24.991 million tons of coal worth US$1.316 billion. (vinanet)
