Vietnam President’s Visit to Singapore Tightens Bilateral Ties
Vietnamese President Nguyen Minh Triet held talks with Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew and Senior Minister Go Chok Tong Nov 16 on his visit to the island nation to tighten the two countries’ comprehensive ties.
During the talks, both sides agreed to effectively carry out the framework agreement on Vietnam Singapore ties in six main fields of finance, investment, trade-service, transport, telecommunication-information technology and education-training as well as expand the cooperation to other potential aspects like urban planning, health, post and telecommunications.
They also affirmed to continue mutual support at regional and international forums including ASEAN, APEC, ASEM and the UN.
PM Lee Hsien Loong took the occasion to inform that he will visit Vietnam early 2010 and attend the groundbreaking ceremony of Vietnam-Singapore industrial zone in Haiphong city.
On the same day, President Triet met with leaders of Singapore’s leading groups investing in Vietnam, including those from Keppel Land, Singapore Technologies Telemedia and Sembcorp.
Singaporean investors affirmed the increase of middle-class population in Vietnam is a good opportunity to develop the fields of telecommunications, infrastructures and real estates.
The Vietnamese President met with Singapore’s Speaker of Parliament Abdullah Tamugi and Senior Minister S Jayakumar and visit Fusionopolis, Singapore’s science and technology hub on November 17.
Triet also attended the forum “Vietnam – partner for development and progress†and witnessed the signing of cooperative deals in maritime transport, housing and bonds issuing in the Singapore stock exchange before wrapping up his two-day trip late the same day. (CPV, VoV)
