Vietnam Power Output Up 8.1% to Average 275.3M kWh/Day in June

The state-run Electricity of Vietnam Group (EVN) said on its website late Tuesday that the country’s power output was averaged at 275.3 million kWh per day in June, up 8.1% from a year earlier.

EVN’s power supply rose 6.82% on year to 7.984 billion kWh in June, of which it produced 4.849 billion kWh and bought 3.135 billion kWh, up 32.28% on year in term of power purchases.

The group bought 494 million kWh of power from neighboring China during the month, up 35.86% on year.

EVN produced a combined 27.6 billion kWh of electricity in the first half of this year, up 5.86% on year.

The group’s hydropower power plants operated at only 84.46% of their designed capacity in H1 as a result of lower power levels at hydropower lakes, which resulted in an on year fall of 1.7 billion kWh in its hydropower output in H1.

The country’s sole power distributor said it lost a combined VND4.7 trillion (US$246.137 million) from buying 18.341 billion kWh of power from high-cost sources in H1.

The group estimates the national power demand will rise 17.63% from a year earlier in July while forecasting the country’s power output at an average of 297 million kWh and the national total power generation capacity at from 14,000 MW and 15,500 MW during the month.
