Vietnam participates in APEC Trade Ministers meeting in Japan

Vietnam’s Minister of Industry and Trade, Vu Huy Hoang, and other ministers from the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum met in Sapporo, Japan on June 5.

During the two-day meeting, they will assess the progress of member economies in implementing targets for free trade and investment in the region.

This year, Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand and the US are scheduled to report their economic progress, while the others, including Chile, Hong Kong, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru and Singapore may volunteer to give their own reports.

In addition, the trade ministers will discuss measures to push the Doha Development Agenda (DDA) negotiations, and consider ways to accelerate regional economic integration, including possible pathways to an Asia-Pacific Free Trade Area.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Minister Vu Huy Hoang is expected to meet with his counterparts from Russia, Chile and Canada.
