Vietnam ODA disbursement likely up 13.5% in Jan-Aug
Vietnam is estimated to have disbursed US$1.81 billion in the first eight months of this year, fulfilling 74.5% of the full-year target and up 13.5% from a year earlier, said the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI).
The country signed ODA deals worth US$1.62 billion with donors between January and August, according to the MPI.
During the period, the nation’s total re-lent ODA was reportedly at VND4.3 trillion (US$220.5 million), meeting 43.2% of the year plan, the ministry added.
The Vietnamese government has issued a decree which allows private enterprises to re-borrow ODA for their projects in agricultural and rural development; urban infrastructure construction; health and education services and environment. The Decree No 78/2010/ND-CP will take effect on August 30.
The MPI said Vietnam targets to disburse US$3.5 billion in ODA in 2010 against the record high US$4.1 billion in 2009.
At the CG Meeting held in Hanoi late last year, foreign donors pledged a record of US$8.063 billion in aid for the nation this year.
The Southeast Asian country disbursed US$9.81 billion in ODA between 2006 and 2009, accounting for 41% of total pledged ODA. The figure is forecast to rise to US$12.96 billion by end-December this year. (Vietnam Economic Times)
