Vietnam ODA commitment to reach $7.4bln in 2012
Vietnam is expected to receive $7.386 billion official development assistance (ODA) commitments in 2012, or $.05 billion lower than that in 2011, the information was provided at the Consultative Group (CG) meeting in Hanoi on December 6.
Bui Quang Vinh, Minister of Planning and Investment said that $7.386 billion ODA commitment is a very positive result amid the global economic difficulty.
Vietnam commits to effectively use the help of the international donor community. Firstly, the government will continue boosting ODA project disbursement in a faster and more effective way, the Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said at the meeting, adding that the Vietnamese government always maintains harmony between economic stability and solving environment problems.
Japan may give Vietnam a higher ODA than the planned amount of JPY148.5 billion ($1.9 billion) in 2012, the Japanese Ambassador Yasuaki Tanizaki spoke at the CG opening ceremony.
World Bank (WB), Asian Development Bank (ADB) are the first and the second biggest multiple donors for Vietnam in 2012. With JPY148.5 billion ($1.9 billion) ODA commitment for Vietnam in 2012 Japan is likely to be the largest bilateral donor, Vinh said.
