Vietnam network providers to import 5,000 more iPhone 4 handsets

Two telecom companies in Vietnam, namely VinaPhone and Viettel are finalizing license to import and offer about 2,500 more iPhone 4 units (each) on the market, the local newswire VnExpress reported.

Since original iPhone 4 appeared in the market (Sep 2010), VinaPhone and Viettel distributed 20,000 iPhone 4 units of many kinds. The products were imported in various stages and sold according to the ticket picking and pre-register method.

A source from VinaPhone said that its shipment of 2,500 iPhone 4 units would be available on market in 15 days. This is the “hot” product so hundreds of people registered and waited for purchase via the company’s distribution system.

“We have negotiated with Apple manufacturer to continue importing a large volume of iPhone 4 units to meet consumers’ increasing demand,” according to the source.

And Viettel also revealed the same event.

On last Jan 29, this was the first time the customs agency listed iPhone 4 product in the category of commodities subject to forex rate risks. Accordingly, iPhone 4 16GB unit attached with charger, earphone, USB wire was sold at $547 and another kind iPhone 4 32 GB was priced at $647. The prices were considered as a basis for customs agencies to define and manage the companies who import directly iPhone 4.

Also, many other models of mobile handsets were listed in the commodity category, which were made by Samsung, Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Motorola, HTC, Mobiado and TagHeuer…

Now Viettel and VinaPhone are two official distributors of Apple’s iPhone 4. Separately, though MobiFone announced to win licence to distribute iPhone 4 in March, but till now there has not been any sign showing that Apple accepted MobiFone as the third iPhone 4 distributor in Vietnam.
