Vietnam’s natural gas production rose 16.7% from a year earlier to 3.98 billion cubic meters in the first five months of this year, according to the government’s General Statistics Office (GSO).

The nation produced 820 million cubic meters of the gas in May, down 1.2% on month and up 18.8% on year, the office said.

This year, the state-owned Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) targets to produce eight billion cubic meters of natural gas, equaling that of 2009.

The group plans to produce 19 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year in the 2011-2015 period. – GSO
