Vietnam natural gas output +20% to 6.34B cbm in Jan-Aug

Vietnam is estimated to have produced 6.34 billion cubic meters of natural gas in the first eight months of this year, said the government’s General Statistics Office (GSO).

The figure indicates a rise of 20% from a year earlier, the office attributed.

The country’s natural gas output was up 17.6% from a year earlier to 760 million cubic meters in August, the GSO said.

The state-owned Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) targets to produce 8.58 billion cubic meters of natural gas this year, and expects to tap 51.6 billion cubic meters through 2015.

Between 2006 and 2010, PetroVietnam supplies a combined 35 billion cubic meters of dry natural gas as fuel for production of 40% of the national power output, of between 35% and 40% of the country’s urea demand and 70% of the national liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) need. (GSO)
