Vietnam Ministry Mulling over Measures to Stabilize Goods Prices for Tet
The Ministry of Finance is considering measures to stabilize prices of goods for the upcoming Lunar New Year or Tet holidays which will start from mid-Feb.
The MoF intends to advance part of its state budget plans for 2010 to raise subsidized loans for localities and businesses to stockpile commodities for Tet holiday.
The move followed the Prime Minister’s Instruction No. 2008 urging ministries and agencies to join hands to stabilize prices of essential goods and to ensure sufficient commodities for the holiday.
Consumer prices normally rise sharply before Tet, analysts said.
Vietnam’s consumer price index in December is estimated to have soared 1.38% from a month earlier, driven by higher costs of housing and construction materials and transportation, the government’s General Statistics Office said.
The CPI was up 6.52% from a year earlier, the office added. (Labor)
