Vietnam May vehicle sales fall 19.3% on year, 18.6% on month

Vehicle sales in Vietnam fell 19.3% to 7,661 units in May from 9,498 units a year earlier, the second straight month of declines, industry data showed Thursday.

Sales in May fell 18.6% from April, the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers’ Association said.

The data include sales of both domestically produced and imported cars, vans, trucks, buses, and other engine-powered road vehicles.

Government data released in May showed Vietnam imported 26,906 assembled vehicles, valued at $524 million, in the January-May period, up 46% from a year earlier by volume and 65% by value.

Imports of vehicles and vehicle parts were worth $1.339 billion in the January-May period, up 23.7% from a year earlier. – DowJones
