Vietnam is likely to import around 1 million tons of oil and gas as the Dung Quat Oil Refinery undergoes a two-month shutdown from the middle of July for maintenance, the online newspaper Dantri reported on April 18, citing Nguyen Hoai Giang, General Director of Binh Son Refinery and PetroChemical Co., the company that runs the plant.
On the March shut down of the plant, Vietnam was likely to have to import 300,000 tons of gasoline to meet the domestic demand, the online newspaper Tuoitre reported on March 22.
From its start, Dung Quat Oil Refinery has supplied 8.5 million tons of petrol and fulfilled 30% of domestic consumption, helping to stabilize the domestic petrol prices.
The expansion of the plant to 10 million metric tons of crude a year, or 200,000 barrels a day, from 6.5 million tons. The expansion will likely be completed by 2015 or 2016, Giang said. – Stoxplus.com
