Vietnam likely to hike electricity prices from June 1 as the price level stays high in the recent time, the state-run Nguoilaodong quoted Hoang Quoc Vuong, Deputy Minister as saying on a meeting of the Minister of Industry and Trade(MoIT).

Earlier, Vinacomin, the biggest coal explorer of Vietnam, raised the coal prices sold for Electricity of Viet Nam (EVN), pushing higher electricity production cost.

The Vietnamese government issued the Decision 24/2001/QD-TTg on electricity prices adjustment. In details, the government agreed to adjust the electricity prices by market forces with maximum frequency of 4 times per year. EVN must propose to MoIT the raise the prices if the input prices rise by 5%. It also needs to ask for the government agreement if the input prices increase by above 5%.

On March 1, Vietnam raised the electricity prices by 15.28%, pressuring on the consumer price index in March and April. – Stoxplus.com
