Vietnam Licenses 22.8M Phone Users in H1, Up 12.2% On-year

Vietnam signed up 22.8 million new phone subscribers in the first half of this year, an increase of 12.2% over the same period last year, the General Statistics Office said in its monthly report.

The figure comprised 22.1 million mobile phone subscribers, up 18.7% on year, while the number of land-line subscribers fell 58.7% on year to 707,700.

The new subscription brought the total number of mobile phone users in Vietnam to 133.5 million and landline ones to 17.5 million at end-June, up 55.4% and 10.7% on year, respectively.

Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) served 79.4 million clients, up 35.6% from a year ago.

By the end of June, the number of broadband internet users nationwide rose 33.5% on year to 3.4 million.

Net revenues of the post and telecom industry increased 33.7% to VND56.1 trillion, including VND37.4 trillion made by the VNPT.
