Vietnam, Laos cooperate in satellite service

Vietnam and Laos inked an agreement to cooperate on satellite service on Dec.16 in the capital city of Laos , Vientiane.

Attending the signing ceremony were Deputy Head of Vietnam Maritime Administration Do Duc Tien and Director of the Laos ‘ Civil Aviation Department Yakua Lorpangkao.

The agreement aimed to bring Vietnam ‘s Cospas-Sarsat satellite system’s channels into operation at Laos ‘ Search and Rescue (SAR) points of contact (SPOC).

Addressing the signing ceremony, Tien said the agreement would help Laos boost search and rescue services and help strengthen the country’s transport security and safety.

In 2009, the two countries signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperartion in receiving, processing and distributing data from the Cospas-Sarsat satellite. – Vietnamplus
