Vietnam produced 3.607 million metric tons of coal in July, up 14% from a year earlier, the government’s General Statistics Office said Monday.

In the January-July period, the country produced 26.148 million tons of coal, up 3.4%, the GSO said in a statement.

June coal output was 3.388 million tons, revised figures showed.

The GSO said electricity output in July likely rose 4.5% compared with last July, to 8.8 billion kilowatt-hours. In June, Vietnam produced 8.6 billion kWh of electricity.

Vietnam produced 56.8 billion kWh of electricity in the first seven months of the year, up or 9.4%, it said.

The GSO usually issues coal and electricity figures before the end of the reporting period, based on estimates. – DowJones
