Vietnam, Japan to Sign Credit Agreements for Infrastructure Projects in March
Vietnam and Japan will sign loan agreements for two key infrastructure projects in Hanoi early next month, the Vietnam News Agency said, citing an official from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
Tsuno Motonori, JICA Chief Representative in Vietnam said the projects are the Noi Bai International Airport and the Noi Bai-Nhat Tan Expressway.
JICA will consider providing loans for the Da Nang-Quang Ngai section of the North-South Expressway, following the Ho Chi Minh City-Long Thanh-Dau Giay section, Motonori added.
The official noted that Lach Huyen Port project, which is expected to use Japanese ODA, should be implemented under public-private partnership form.
JICA will speed up the tempo of projects of Nhat Tan Bridge, the remaining approaching road of Thanh Tri Bridge and belt road No. 3 to support Hanoi’s urban development as the capital city marks its 1,000th birthday in October.
Japan is also mulling over giving more ODA to Ho Chi Minh City’s important projects, including the East-West highway and a project to improve water quality in the basin of Tau Hu-Ben Nghe-Doi Te channel in the first phase, said Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Sakaba Mitsuio recently.
At Consultative Group Meeting held in Hanoi on December 3-4, 2009, Japan pledged to provide US$1.64 billion in ODA for Vietnam this year, topping the bilateral donors. (vietnamplus)
