Vietnam Jan-mid May Petroleum Imports Up 19.4% to US$2.4B

Vietnam spent US$2.436 billion on importing 3.869 million metric tons of petroleum products from January to mid-May, up 19.4% from a year earlier in value but down 23.8% in volume, said the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Of the total, the Southeast Asian country bought US$1.3 billion worth of 2.044 million metric tons of diesel oil and US$590.8 million worth of 323,240 metric tons of gasoline during the period, the ministry attributed.

Vietnam Petroleum Imports

In the first half of May, the nation imported 371,000 metric tons of petroleum products valued at US$240.77 million, down 24.6% and 25.8% on year, respectively.

As of end-May, the national first oil refinery Dung Quat, located in the central province of Quang Ngai, had produced 3.2 million tons of products, and sold three million tons of its outcomes to the domestic market.
