Vietnam Imports from China +37.35% to US$3.97B in Q1: Ministry

Vietnam’s imports from China soared 37.35% from a year earlier to US$3.97 billion in the first quarter of this year, including US$1.51 billion in March, up 30.58%.

The country’s main imports were machinery equipment worth US$937.95 million, up 22.9% on-year, apparel worth US$376.05 million, up 31.67% and computers, electronics and spare parts worth US$340.85 million, up 38.54%, the Ministry of Industry and Trade said.

Vietnam’s exports to China surged 51.79% on-year to US$1.4 billion in the first quarter, resulting in the country’s trade deficit of US$2.57 billion, the ministry noted.

Vietnam and China aim to raise the bilateral trade to US$25 billion this year from US$21.35 billion in 2009.
