Vietnam imports 5.33M tons of steel, iron in Jan-Aug

Vietnam has spent US$3.705 billion on importing 5.328 million tons of steel and iron in the first eight months of this year, the General Statistics Office said.

The figures represented an on-year rise of 15% in value but an on-year fall of 12.6% in volume, the office said.

In August, the country imported 600,000 tons of steel worth US$460 million.

Vietnam reported sharp increases in steel exports of 836,000 tons valued at US$676 million during the Jan-Aug period, up 207.5% and 220.8 % on-year, respectively. (GSO)
