Vietnam imports 31,600 CBU cars in H1

Vietnam’s import for CBU cars in June was 4,800 units worth $85 million, falling strongly in both volume and value from previous months, General Statistics Office (GSO) reported.
In the previous month, the country imported 5,300 units valued at $116 million and the figure in April was 5,500 units for $113 million.

Totally in Jan-Jun, the country imported 31,600 CBU cars worth $593 million, up 37.1% in volume and 45.9% in value from the same period last year.

Notably, the total import volume of less than 10-seat cars tended to increased in recent two months because enterprises signed contracts before the Circular 20 of Ministry of Industry and Trade takes effect (June 26). Since then, analysts predicted that since July, imports of CBU cars will decrease sharply due to more restrictions from the Circular 20.

Import spending of CBU cars in recent four months

Volume (Units) Value (Mln US dollar)
March 2011 5,700 115
April 2011 5,500 113
May 2011 5,300 116
June 2011 (estimated) 4,800 85
